Gunung Lambak: Climbing Our First Mountain
In the past week, we climbed our first mountain - Gunung Lambak, located near the town of Kluang in Johor. The summit at the north peak stands at 510m, making it a relatively small mountain, but from the foot, it looks so tall to me!
Initially, it was quite easy as there were a tarmac path and steps but it got more challenging after a while. We had to grab onto tree trunks, ropes and roots for support. The roots of the trees in the tropical rain forest formed natural steps for recreational visitors so we did not have to worry about steep slopes.
By the time we reached the mid point, my brother was already quite exhausted, and so was I. We stopped for a brief break and proceed on with our climb to the north peak via a longer but gradual route around the mountain. It took us about 45 mins to reach the summit. We were standing above the whole town of Kluang and enjoyed the great view.
When it was time to climb down the mountain, we had to make a choice of
either taking the same long and gradual route, or the shorter but steeper route. We went for the the steep but faster way.
It wasn't as hard as we expected. The route was much steeper and there were fewer trees to hold on to but it was manageable.
When we arrived back at the mid point, we were happy the steep and vertical descend was over we still had quite a distance to walk down a gradual slope.
After a tiring walk, we arrived back at the entrance, we were
exhausted but happy that we made it. Before this, we never thought it was possible for us to reach the summit. I would recommend climbing Gunung Lambak to young beginners for a very fun experience. I am sure you would like it too.
